Thanksgiving/Black Friday

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated on various dates around the world.  It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year.  Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.  Thanksgiving became a federal holiday in 1863, during the American Civil War. President Lincoln proclaimed a national day of "Thanksgiving and Praise.  The event that Americans commonly call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in October  This feast lasted three days, and was attended by 90 Native Americans (Wampanoag tribe) and 53 Pilgrims.  (the 4 surviving women plus children and servants cooked the feast -- smile)

So, we go on to pictures of past and present Thanksgiving celebrations... (There is absolutely NO authenticity of any pilgrim or Native American depictions -- smile)

Black Friday

Black Friday is an informal name for the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which has been regarded as the beginning of the country's Christmas shopping season since 1952, although the term "Black Friday" did not become widely recognized or used until the 1980s or later in some regions.   as the phrase became more widespread, a popular explanation became that this day represented the point in the year when retailers begin to turn a profit, thus going from being "in the red" to being "in the black".

When planning to flash (Black Friday or not) it's easier by going commando -- smile
